Are you a family business owner interested in creating a board or making your board more effective?

Are you an independent director serving a family business interested in learning how to help the business and the family achieve their goals?

Join us for a two-day conference dedicated to supporting high-achieving boards for family businesses.

The conference will be valuable for family businesses or family offices who:

  • Want to create or enhance their board of directors;
  • Are considering adding independent directors; or
  • Face substantial transitions (such as succession, non-family management, expansion, private equity, sale).

The conference also will be helpful for individuals who serve as outside independent directors of family-owned firms.

Topics covered include:

  • The Role of the Board in Family Business Governance
  • Independent Directors vs. Advisors
  • How to be an Effective Director
  • How can an Effective Board Help Owners and Management Expand Their Thinking?
  • What Guidance does the Board Need from Owners?
  • Identifying Potential Independent Directors

Family business owners and independent directors will benefit from participating in sessions led by an experienced team of faculty, family business owners, and independent directors with family business board experience. Participants will learn and share experiences through interactive sessions that aim to provide actionable take-aways, practical insights, and thought-expanding questions.

Participants will find it useful to bring multiple family members and board members.

Highlights of this year's Family Business Board Forum include:

Forum Cost
$1,000 per person or $2,500 per family (up to 4 participants, additional participants at $500 each) – includes continental breakfast, lunch, cocktail reception, and meeting materials. The current UNC student rate is $125.

Feedback from a participant in the Family Enterprise Center’s annual Fall Family Business Forum:

"The Forum gives our family valuable exposure to outside ideas and experiences that help us shape our strategy. Meeting each year also holds us accountable by ensuring we act on the ideas developed during the previous Forum."
