UNC-Chapel Hill, its affiliated foundations ("UNCCH" “we” or “our”), and the UNC General Alumni Association (“GAA”) respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This Privacy Statement explains our policies and practices regarding the information we collect from and about you through the Carolina Annual Giving SMS program. By opting in to receive text messages, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Statement.
2. INFORMATION ABOUT CAROLINA ANNUAL GIVING SMS
Carolina Annual Giving SMS is operated by the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of University Development, 140 Friday Center Dr., CB# 6100, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-6100.
The purpose of the program is to provide:
- Fundraising appeals (e.g., GiveUNC, Pantry Bowl, student support initiatives)
- Campaign reminders and updates
- Event invitations and engagement opportunities

3. INFORMATION WE COLLECT FROM AND ABOUT YOU
Information You Provide
When you opt in to Carolina Annual Giving SMS, we may collect personally identifiable information such as your name, mobile number, email address, and gift history.
Information We May Collect Automatically
When you interact with our messages, we may automatically collect information such as message delivery confirmations, opt-in/opt-out activity, and carrier information. This information helps us ensure compliance and improve the effectiveness of our communications.
Non-Personally Identifiable Information
We may also collect aggregated, anonymous data about how often messages are received, opened, or responded to.
4. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We may use personally identifiable and non-personally identifiable information collected from and about you to:
- Deliver fundraising, stewardship, and event-related messages via SMS
- Process opt-ins and opt-outs
- Track and analyze program effectiveness
- Comply with legal requirements
- Improve donor and alumni engagement with UNC-Chapel Hill
5. SHARING YOUR INFORMATION
Donor and alumni data is the property of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Mobile opt-ins are excluded from third-party sharing for marketing purposes.
We do not share, sell, or rent personally identifiable information, including mobile opt-ins, with unaffiliated entities for their own marketing use.
We may share information with service providers who support our SMS program. These providers are required to keep your information confidential and may only use it to fulfill services for UNC-Chapel Hill.
We may disclose your information when required by law or to protect the rights, privacy, safety, or property of UNC-Chapel Hill and its affiliates.
6. SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.
7. CONSENT TO PROCESSING
By opting in to Carolina Annual Giving SMS, you understand and consent to the collection, use, and processing of your information in the United States in accordance with this Privacy Statement.
8. OPT-OUT INSTRUCTIONS
You may opt out of receiving Carolina Annual Giving SMS messages at any time. To opt out of text messages, reply STOP. You will receive a confirmation text once you have unsubscribed.
9. LINKS TO OTHER SITES
Our SMS messages may include links to UNC-Chapel Hill websites or other third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of those sites. UNC-CH is not responsible for their practices.
